Hi all,

Well I just thought I'd share a scan of the Bass-Ackwards Pirate that
I mentioned earlier:

Chris,

WOW! What a terrific stamp you carved! Who cares about the bass-ackwards initials? This is a gem just as it is!  You should be very proud of your work and put this one in the LBNA file for display.

What a great stamp! Is it life size?

At least you weren't put in charge of creating an event stamp and
spelled the name of the darned park wrong. *grumbling* Had to
carve the whole thing over again. *grumbling some more*

Just think what a coveted exchange stamp this will be after all the attention on the List! I need it in my
book, that's for sure. Funhog

Wow, what a GREAT STAMP. That stamp is better than any we've done.
Please don't change it, it adds a certain charcter to the stamp.

WOW - That's a great carving! If the backwards letters bother you,
could you color over them with a black felt marker? Maybe just
pounce the marker a few times over the letters - that might cover
them enough so that they aren't so noticeable without creating
distinct black lines.

Of course if we ever meet for an exchange, we all want the backwards
letters!

Thanks for the suggestions and compliments. It makes me feel better
about him. I've got some options.

I might make a new stamp with a different pirate. I don't think I
would want to carve the same pirate again.

Or I could use this stamp. I do think it has some character. The
pirate thinks he's so tough and mean, but he is easy to laugh at
because the moron couldn't even put the letters on his hat correctly.

Or, option 3. I could take my Xacto and slice that hat off of him.
Then I could create a hat stamp with proper initials. Then I would
use two stamps. I could also make other hats. Like a baseball cap.
And then I could make an Abraham Lincoln hat, and an indian
headdress, and a hat like the pope wears.. . ok, I'm getting ahead of
myself.

Anyways, thanks for all the feedback. Now when I look at the pirate I
let out a little laugh, instead of a cry.

I'd really like to stamp your books with Captain Backwards. I have
never done that before. Except for I live in Iowa. Maybe someday...

Wow! I love the pirate carving. It's really a nice stamp, even with
the backwards letters. I agree with the others -- keep him like he
is, especially now that it's gone around the talk list. So many of
us can relate, having done the very same thing on our first carving
(and then quickly throwing it away so that nobody would see...) In
this way, he has a character and a spirit about him that is all of
us. I think it would be fun to find a box and see the backwards-
letters pirate stamped in before me! Or better yet, run into him on
the trail and exchange stamps. It's a keeper!

Just another opinion. My first stamp was SOOOOO pitiful!! Like a kid's
line drawing, done in an eraser. Part of me is embarrassed, but part of me
leaves it in my first ever box as a reminder of where I started. Now, I am
sure there have been people who found that box and thought "Yuck - crappy
stamp!" but everyone has at least been nice in their comments about the
location I chose and the journal I made. And my carving is improving by
leaps and bounds with each new stamp. So I agree with everyone else that
you should leave it just as it is. And who knows? It may grow to be as
valuable as that upside down airplane postage stamp! It certainly seems to
have a following already!

Well, if you want my opinion (and even if you don't) I think that pirate
stamp is awesome and I wouldn't change a single thing if I had carved
something that good. Leave it just the way it is, Chris!
